This personalized journey takes you through Genoa’s historic center, one of the largest in Europe, to explore its renowned art, architectural wonders, and the bustling port that has been the heart of the city for centuries.

Discovering Genoa: The Superb City of the Sea

The Historic Center and Via Garibaldi
Begin your exploration in Genoa’s historic center, a maze of narrow streets and alleys known as ‘caruggi.’ This area is home to the UNESCO-listed Via Garibaldi, famed for its opulent Renaissance and Baroque palaces, such as Palazzo Rosso, Palazzo Bianco, and Palazzo Tursi, which now house impressive art collections. A walk along Via Garibaldi offers a glimpse into the wealth and power of Genoa’s past maritime republic.

The Old Port and the Aquarium
No visit to Genoa is complete without experiencing its vibrant Old Port (Porto Antico). Revitalized by architect Renzo Piano, the port area is a lively space where culture, entertainment, and history converge. Here, you’ll find the Genoa Aquarium, one of the largest and most technologically advanced in Europe, offering an immersive journey through marine ecosystems around the world.

Cathedral of San Lorenzo
Discover the heart of Genoa’s religious life at the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, with its striking black-and-white striped façade and richly decorated interior. The cathedral houses significant artworks and relics, including the Sacro Catino, said to be the Holy Grail.

Lantern of Genoa
For panoramic views of the city and harbor, a visit to the Lantern of Genoa (La Lanterna), the city’s iconic lighthouse and one of the oldest in the world still in operation, is a must. The surrounding park offers a peaceful retreat with stunning vistas of the Ligurian Sea.
